GIACOMO VANELLI
Italian composer, musician and sound artist whose practice explores sound as a form of listening and a means of transforming perception.
Through drone music, sustain music and compositional processes based on slowness, he creates works that invite the listener to slow down the experience of listening, shifting attention away from the musical event itself towards the relationships that emerge between harmonics, resonances, beats and microvariations. Within this expanded space, sound ceases to be an object to observe and becomes an environment to inhabit.
Influenced by minimalism, Fluxus and Deep Listening, he considers composition not as the construction of a closed form, but as the creation of conditions in which listening can expand beyond music itself. Each work emerges from the idea that perception is never static, but an ongoing process capable of transforming the relationship between the individual, time and environment.
Rather than guiding the listener towards a predetermined meaning, his works open up a space for experience. Music thus becomes a catalyst for attention: an invitation to pause, embrace change and allow each person to construct their own path through sound.
His compositions exist at the intersection of concert, sound installation and contemplative practice, proposing a form of listening in which silence, duration and presence hold the same value as musical material.
